Clustering with Knoppix

At the meeting, we will be clustering the computers in the lab at Canterbury High School. Hopefully, the idea is to show how a cluster running on [WWW]Open Mosix can transform computers in a lab into a lightweight supercomputer.

We'll discuss how one might set one up on a more permanent basis, as well as talk about how to mitigate performance bottlenecks with a basic cluster.

A good starter on linux clusters can be from from [WWW]IBM's DeveloperWorks.

Implementation

We'll be using Cluster Knoppix to setup the cluster. [WWW]ClusterKnoppix which is based upon the [WWW]Knoppix live cd distro.

I've tested out the PXE, and it does work. In fact it works pretty well. But it is not without some IT issues, so I'll get into those as well.

Uses

Raytracing with POVRAY and blender, perhaps some kernel compiling, and maybe even doing a LINPACK test so we can get a general idea how our cluster performs against, say, IBM's massive 65k-processor [WWW]BlueGene/L supercomputer.
